SHAWN DUNCANOne of hard rock’s essential and most underrated drummers with over 20 years of experience under his belt, Shawn Duncan is the drummer of choice whose command of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal is equally matched by an early pedigree in Classic Rock and Soul inspired music absorbed during his formative years.
Currently, Shawn Duncan is behind the kit for the up-and-coming hard rock band, DC4, which includes brothers Matt and Jeff Duncan, the latter who is also a member of metal mainstay Armored Saint. Just added last year to the DC4 line-up is British born guitarist Rowan Robertson, a teenage prodigy who toured at the age of 19 with Ronnie James Dio.
Shawn Duncan balances a dedicated commitment to DC4 with his involvement as a major component of the newly reconvened ODIN, a legendary metal classic from the 1980s of which Shawn is an original cofounder. ODIN was the featured artist in Penelope Spherris’ 1988 documentary, The Decline Of Western Civilization Part 2.

In the modern day ether of ODIN, an upcoming compilation entitled Best of Odin is on the horizon. The disc will feature a brand new song entitled “Let The Show Begin,” plus a rare live track from the 1980s and an arsenal of studio tracks from each of the band’s studio albums.
1). Let's start right of the hop with albums. You're going to jail for life after an unfortunate misunderstanding at the Key Club, you're allowed five albums to keep you sane, what will they be and why?
Not necessarily in this order...and obviously considering the circumstances, playing anything soft and pretty would be asking for a poop shoot intrusion, therefore, the albums would have to contain a certian amount of machismo in order to avoid such an unfortunate predicament.
1) Physical Graffiti, Led Zeppelin: First off it is a double album so I get a 2fer! Then I get to listen to some of the best written Hard Rock ever created..Nuff said!

2)The Mob Rules, Black Sabbath: One of my all time favorite albums. Killer drums (ala Vinnie Appice), Great Songs! Dio and Iommi..it just don't get any better...
3)Appetite For Destruction, Guns and Roses: This album straight up Rocks! Front to back a great record!
4) Killers, Queen, Again a 2fer!! So many awesome songs..and it can take me away from the cell for a while and make me feel like I am somewhere else..Like looking at hot chicks in tank tops bouncing around on someones shoulder!
5) Master of Puppets, Metallica, Um..because it KICKS ASS!!!
2). Tell us about your favorite gig and why it stands out in your mind?
Mcallen TX, 1988, Odin opened for Alcatrazz and the place went nuts. I thought they were gonna tear down the place..we felt like The Beatles..HA! And needless to say that show later led to several more we did in Texas..Gotta LOVE them Texas Ladies!!!
3). Tell us in detail a nightmare you've had that still gives you the creeps.
Running as fast as I can and I come up to what looks like a little hill in front of me..I do not know who I am running from but I seem scared. So I get to the little hill an hit it full speed, running hard I look back and still can't tell what I am running from..when I turn around I am at the top of the hill only to find out that it is a cliff! I can't stop and jump off the cliff, arms and legs flailing I see the ground getting bigger beneath me and always wake up before I hit bottom..Not fun...
4). In a world so saturated with celebritism, is there any room left in the future for iconic superstars like Michael Jackson, or has that kind of status come to an end?
I think it is over in Music. Maybe some actor or something, but The music business has eaten themselves and forgot how to put Talent, Songs and Creativity first...So now we get cookie cutter corporate shit bands and "stars" who last about 2 albums if they are lucky.
5). You have a chance to spend one evening with any deceased musician. Who do you choose, what do you talk about, and what do you order for dinner?
Fuck Dinner, I would have beers with John Bonham and talk about music, drums and some Led Zeppelin history.

6). If you could go back in time, tell us how a typical summer day in your childhood would have been spent. Who would you have spent that time with and what would you have been doing that still brings back good memories to this day?
OK, at about 8 am on a Saturday I would wake up to a few of my friends at my window..you see Ben and Brant (my chinese friends up the street) would usually cop a little cash from their parents stash (they didn't belive in banks and owned a laundromat).. one of them would say: "Shawn, lets go, I got a Krispy" (this was good, Krispy was code for a $100 bill and in 1977 that was a lot of fricken dough!) So I would get up and usually if it was a Krispy there would be several of us. Me, Abel, Ben, Brant and sometimes Carlos and Agu...We would walk over to the bus stop and take the 91 into Hollywood or somewhere like that, Long Beach, where ever..but ultimately we almost always ended up at a bowling alley bowling endless games, eating pizza and playing pinball for hours! This happened very often, sometimes we went to the mall or fishing, but mostly it was Pinball and Pizza! LOL..Good times!
7). What is your greatest fear at the moment?
That Mother Earth is going to shake of the human race like a bunch of fleas. I honestly couldn't blame the bitch.
8). What song puts goosebumps on your arms and takes you right back to a distinct moment in your past? Share with us why...
My brother wrote a song recently called "Dirty Hands", it will be on the new DC4 CD "Electric Ministry" (shameless plug, like how I did that?), anyhow, after our mother passed we had the unfortunate responsibility of cleaning out her house and garage. Mom kept EVERYTHING. So here we are Me, Jeff, Matt and my sister Ginger having to go through all of this stuff and throw most of it away in a huge roll off container. I don't know how many people have had to do this, but you have so many conflicting emotions while doing this that it physically drains you. But anyway, Jeff wrote this song and it covers the 2 days perfectly...just awesome.

9). Tell us about the worst job you ever had to endure.
Her teeth really got in the way! Braces and all! Brutal I tell ya!
10). What do you fear worse than death (if anything) and why?
Being crippled. Death is natural, walking around drooling and unable to function is a fate worse than death...
